A day that NO ONE in the state of Alabama will forget…
A day that forever changed this state!
A day that took the lives of so many.. Hurt many more. & a day that complete towns were destroyed!
I knew at the beginning of that day one year ago, that it wasn’t going to be good… I was woken up at 4 a.m. by my next door neighbor calling me saying that it was getting bad & we needed to get over to her house because she has a basement. & I also had my dad calling me, he was out of town at work, & wanted to make sure we were watching the weather & everything. Well me & my mom are the type of people who will wait till last minute to do anything, so we just laid in her bed, until finally the radio said everything had passed us… No one knew that that would only be the first storm of the day…
I begged my mom not to make me go to school that day, I was like I got woken up at 4 this morning, it looks like its gonna storm, we prolly wont do anything today… I was throwing out EVERY excuse I could not to go to school, but unfortantly I lost the battle & had to go to school anyway…
So it was maybe like 10:30ish 11 when everything started happening. I was in my computer class in which is a compeltly different building then the actual school, & we had a guess speaker. So eventually the sirens started going off & everything & we were told to run to the school & get in the auditorium.. So there’s like 15 of us in the actual auditorium, everyone else is in the hallways & so we were just chilling & on our phones, because we were just thinking ya know, this happens all the time.. they’ll eventually let us go home & nothing will happen everythings going to be just fine..
Well at our school you have to have lunch, or it’s not counted as a full day & we gotta make it up. So as they are letting us go to the lunch room to get a sack lunch right quick, I’m like walking out the double doors & it gets pitch black, & our principals are yelling “GET BACK IN THE BUILDING NOW!” so ya know were kinda freaking out & come to find out there was a major funnel cloud over our school. But luckly nothing happened, they were like nevermind lunch, get home now!!!
So I get home, & my mom’s at work, dads home, & both my brothers are home.. Were watching the news & everything & then our tv & internet goes out.. Once again we didn’t think anything about it, because we have comcast, & they suck. It goes out all the time. So we decide to sit on the porch & just watch & see what’s going on… I still have internet on my phone so as were sitting on the porch I’m on Facebook & people are posting all these pictures of tornados, & like there legit like maybe 30/45 minutes away from where I live… But nothings happining at my house. So we did have these clouds that were like moving & we actually recorded them. It was pretty scary… But nothing was really going on at my house, it wasn’t even raining anymore..
So as I’m chilling on the porch, I decided I’d write a little post on facebook, it legit said “sitting on the porch with my dad” my friends went crazy, they were like “ARE YOU CRAZY, THERE’S A FREAKING TORNADO, & YOUR OUTSIDE, YOUR GONNA GET BLOWN AWAY!!!” I was like guys it ain’t even raining.. chill. But eventually the wind picked up & stuff started like falling from the sky, my dad was like what is that? So my dad, if he wonders about something, he’s going to find out what it is.. So he goes out into the yard & finds a piece of whatever just fell from the sky.. We were pretty shocked to find out that it was part of someones roof!!! Like we were just like what the heck is going on.. So we still have NO tv or internet, so on my phone I’m seeing where people are putting stuff about t-town & Phil Cambel. & I’m just like dad something totally happened today. But ya know all we had was our phones & a radio, we didn’t have a clue what had happened. Not until the following day when I had to go back to school did I really find out what Happened.

I will NEVER forget that day… It will FOREVER be in my memory…
